It’s that time again -

It’s that time again - car service time. I’d been putting it off a few months, because I’m completely skint, but as there’s standing water on the floor of the car, the sun-roof has stopped working, and various other problems building up, I figured it was time to visit a garage and get it looked at before anything else goes wrong.

Took it to Trent Saab as ever. Stood there for 3 hours watching over the engineers’ backs as they tweaked and fixed. Learnt lots. But didn’t get the main things fixed that I’d wanted to - I still have two non-working locks (at the moment I have to unlock the boot and stretch painfully over to the front of the car to unlock it) and I still have water on the floor. To be fair, we did establish a number of possible causes of water - some of the outlets were blocked, the steering wheel gaiter had come unattatched, and the new windscreen I had fitted about 10 months ago wasn’t properly sealed. And the locks I get replaced next week.

There was an incredible car in there - a very old Sunbeam Tiger in near pristine condition. Made an incredible noise from its twin exhausts. And as ever I couldn’t help drooling over Graham’s mint condition orange Saab Sonnet.

As ever, everything turned out far too expensive. The service alone was £273… plus VAT. The whole thing came out at £414, which I absolutely cannot afford. Thank god for credit cards (one day they’re gonna fill up… what will I do then?) My only comfort is that it was a job well done (I saw it done) and hopefully, everything will be hunky dory for another year. Except the locks, which I’m getting done next week.

Oh yeah, I finally (9 months on) found a replacement for my car stereo too! On ebay, and only £26 (the last one I bid for went up to about £120). Of course, that’s another £26 that I can’t afford, but at least the £414 takes the shock out of it :-)
