What Use is Faith?

Quiz time. Which religion urges its followers to do this to those who follow other gods:

smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, and all that is therein… with the edge of the sword.

…gather all the spoil of it into the midst of the street, and burn with fire the city, and all the spoil thereof every whit… and it shall be an heap for ever; it shall not be built again.

WRONG! That’s actually what every bible-reading Christian should do, according to the book of Deuteronomy. All religions are much of a muchness, but some religions’ followers are better at sticking to the word of the religious law than others.

Religion is stupid. Give up.

  1. I’m sure we’ve been over this before but…

Old Testament is Jewish. JC’s mission was one of reform. Christians who quote OT at you are missing the point, as I’ve pointed out on the doorstep more than once.

Also: interesting book Deuteronomy. It’s a kinda rewrite of some of the first four books of the Pentateuch which was “discovered” in the Temple during a cleansing of pagan influences. This lost scroll is ascribed to Moses, but describes his death – which is odd.

But yes, religion is basically stupid. But then – so are people. Which is why the two go together like love and marriage!
