Bike Jumps

Building a ramp for bike jumping, SheffieldBike jumping from a ramp

Walking back from town the other day, David and I spotted three lads setting up a ramp to do bike jumps. They were on the waste land near our house, which until recently was a glass factory (Prince Naseem bought it so he could build student flats there and make himself even more money than he has already, but sadly for him he was refused planning permission so it remains a handy place for kids to play).

From our vantage point on Northumberland Road, we could see the kids were building up a ramp, chocking bricks underneath it. Behind the ramp was a vast crater in the ground, it looked at least 10 feet deep and, being full of concrete blocks and bricks, not the ideal place for a landing. I walked around with my camera and saw that they had already built an elegantly curved landing ramp some 20 feet long, a pretty impressive piece of engineering. A few more bricks and they were ready to go. I grabbed a couple of photos in the fading daylight, and they seemed bemused by my interest, but pretty impressed when I showed them the action shots.
