Cardiacs 22nd December 2005

This December, Cardiacs played two "secret" gigs at the Bull and Gate in Kentish Town. Last time I saw them there, about ten years earlier, it had been packed out. This time tickets for both nights sold out in about two hours. Fortunately Arthur managed to get hold of a few, and I went to the second night where they played the entire tracklist from their recent Garage Concerts Volume 2 CD.

Guy (who took a couple of these pictures) and Yannic were visiting from Belgium, so I dragged them along. The gig had a slightly strange atmosphere, very laid back because most of the people there were friends of the band or the kind of diehard fans who would sit in front of their computer waiting for the instant the tickets go on sale. All of the songs played were from 1983 or earlier, which meant that most of my favourites were missing, but it was still a bloody good show. Kavus kept breaking, Ozric Tentacles-style, into Gong riffs, which was slightly surreal. Tim was on fine form, yabbering away to the audience. It was a great night.
